Want to be a Soccer Referee?

Liberty Hill will host referee training clinics instructed by South Texas Soccer Referees this summer.

Individuals interested in Grade 8 certification may register online now to attend the class August 9-10 in Liberty Hill. Upon conclusion of the two-day class and a successful score on an end-of-course exam, youth and adult participants will earn a Grade 8 certification from US Soccer. The badge allows referees to work on youth games of all sizes and ages and Assistant Referee on all youth games and selected adult games.

There are no age restrictions to attend this class, however, STSR recommends students be at least 13 years of age. Some candidates experienced with soccer may do fine at age 11 or 12.

The Grade 8 Recertification Class for current badge holders will be from Noon to 6 p.m. August 2.

Both classes will be held in the Vista Room of the LHISD Administration Building.

US Soccer-certified referees make a difference in LH program

When certified referees joined LHYSA in 2007, there was a noticeable improvement in the quality of the soccer program. Having trained referees adds an important dimension to the learning process, and players learn a great deal about the game from them.

LHYSA first hosted a referee clinic instructed by a US Soccer-certified trainer in February 2007. About 30 participants from Central Texas and some from as far away as Houston attended the clinic, and passed a licensing exam at the end of the two-day event to earn their Grade 8 badge.

LHYSA will continue to use only certified referees to officiate games in the U8, U10, U12 and U18 divisions. That's why the club is hosting two more clinics in 2008.
